Would anyone really be that bothered if we did get relegated?
I know that we're only four games in, of course, and I think that over time it will prove to be the case (again) that there are three worse teams than us.

Putting aside all the childish LONDON STADIUM / FORTRESS UPTON PARK shit for a moment; would you really give a shit if we dropped?

I don't think that I'd really care much at all. I wouldn't even mind being stuck in the Football League for some time. That's probably THE DRUID deep inside of me thinking that way.

The Premier League is such a load of old fucking happy-clappy shit now, and it has been for many years (and it's getting worse at an alarming rate), that I literally couldn't give a toss about it. There is hardly anything that I like about it at all. The same old top-six. The media love-in and obsession with the top clubs. It's just so fucking dull. It will never change either.

Bollocks to it...

You have to look back and Newcastle were always a top 4 team. West Ham have never been that.

The only similarity that i see is that both sets of fans dislike the owners... Fuck me who would own a football club unless you have millions to burn?

The thing with Newcastle though Alf is that when they've gone down they've adjusted quite well, dealt with the pressure of being everyone's cup final and come back at the first attempt automatically.

A couple of seasons ago, we could have cleared house and rebuilt a bit stronger - maybe with a change of owner and a Watford model, or a foreign investment.

Today. The London Stadium. The cash we've just shelled out. Relegation would kill us.

We are the "Newcastle of the South". Perennial underperformers who lurch from one crisis to the next with the odd period of respite.

The Barcodes have a great support but win fvck all and are never too far from a relegation scrap or relegation itself.

It depends on what you want from a day out at your football club. If its a sense of community and feeling a connection with the team and players etc. then the Premership, even perhaps the Championship is not the place IMO.

If you want to keep dreaming and / or believing your team can become the next member of the top 6 ( then 7) and that it can compete with the other successful clubs ( 6 of them in the Prem) then relegation would be a disaster.

As an older git, I am comfortable in the knowledge that I will never see us win anything now. I was lucky, I saw some success in the 60s, 70s and very early 80s. But I understand the younger generations wanting to be part of the "product" that is modern football. The odds are stacked, the table is tilted but I can see why some just want to be part of it.

I would be happy going over to games where West Ham could compete and not be struggling every season. where there was a decent ground and a nice pub or two or even decent bar at the ground to chat with mates. I went to Forest Green on Sat. Game was ok, decent bar, easy to get to , mingle with the players as there are no "I am" types and some local lads playing etc. Its the roots of football and harks back to its origins. Did quite enjoy it tbh.

But family background and being born to West Ham means I have to see this through and am just after a team that is not struggling with relegation each season. Since the Premiership began we have been found out or our owners have. The Cearns, Icelandcis and now 2 shady Flash Harry chancers.

If relegation meant a change of ownership to people who had integrity, had a long term outlook and could capitalise on the superb support then I would not be that bothered if we went down. BUt alas we are stuck with Sullivan and Gold and their people like Barry Silkman and Mackay who like them are all "duckers and divers" IMO..

Too old to be bothered anymore.
Going to watch the Wycombe v Oxford local derby at least they'll be some atmosphere, oh and Russ Abbott will be there because he loves a party...

We’ve always been broken. Because our managers and players continually under-perform.

Or have you been watching a different West Ham to me over the last 35 years?

We wouldn't go straight up the next season.

We weren't broken before Pellegrini?

OK...

Re: Would anyone really be that bothered if we did get relegated?
That’s seriously grabbing at straws! Quick fix! It’s not like we’ve had totally shit players, it’s just that the players we have had continually under-perform. Hardly any have improved under the ‘coaching’ of various managers.

We haven’t been the same since Payet left. He was a huge loss and pretty much impossible to replace.

The owners are far from great and have many flaws but the players and management can’t continue to get away with constantly under-performing. It’s too easy to just blame the owners all the time. £100m and Pellegrini should equal a lot more than what we currently have.

Who's fault is it that we needed a quick fix?

If it doesn't work, and quick fixes often don't, somewhat less than 100% of blame will lie with the influx of new staff.

I wouldn't be happy about it but I'd rather be winning in The Championship than getting whipped in the Prem week in week out.

As one of a very few Hammers amongst Expats here in Nicosia would be a nightmare for me,

How come the owners are still getting hammered when they’ve pretty much stepped up this season? Over £100m on players and a manager brought in who most of us were happy with. I dont see how they are to blame?

It’s the players and the management staff who are a fucking joke. An absolute disgrace at the moment to be honest and are all nicking a living.

Its early but has the wiff of the previous relegation season where no one seemed that bothered after a few seasons of struggling.

Would be a disaster in that stadium but no one can say they didnt see it coming with the clowns in charge. They have previous

it would be heartbreaking to be relegated yet again.
mid table mediocrity in the premier league and a regular tickle in the cups will do just right for me.
we're West Ham and we'll never be top 6 in my opinion but mid table and the cups would be a good level for us.
despite spending the big money this summer (something they should have been doing from day one in the cesspit) to finish in 17th place with the knownothing, tightfisted and criminally conniving dildoes in charge would be something of an achievement for us untill we get proper owners in the future i reckon.

After 50 odd years of supporting west ham ,lately i am losing the will to live and couldnt care less.....least we would have more games on a Saturday and loose a few tourists.

Well said, it really is a load of modern shit. Cannot be arsed with it at all now sadly.

Wouldn't be too bad as long as we were challenging for promotion. On the other hand, if we were doing a Sunderland, that would not be pleasant.
